You’ve finally brought home your dream leather chair. Now what? Leather is a living material, and with the right care, it will outlast you.
1. The Sunlight Rule
Leather’s worst enemy isn’t spills—it’s UV rays. Direct sunlight will dry out the natural oils and cause fading. Position your pieces at least 2 feet away from large windows or use UV-blocking film.
2. Conditioning is Key
Every 6-12 months, apply a high-quality pH-balanced leather conditioner. This keeps the fibers supple and prevents the “cracking” seen in neglected vintage pieces.
3. Dust Often
Micro-grit and dust can act like sandpaper on leather finishes. A simple weekly wipe with a dry microfiber cloth is the best thing you can do for your chair.
Respect the leather, and it will gain character without losing its strength.
